An African Pop-up Shop

Expedition Subsahara is turning two! Let’s celebrate!

All are invited to our biggest pop-up of the year, where there will be an opportunity to shop the goods, sample a traditional African beverage (on us!) and personally witness just how much we’ve grown this trip around the sun.

We’ll have bags and wallets crafted from a variety of sustainable materials, jewelry, and of course — the product that started it all — baskets. This pop-up is an opportunity to support African artisans and our mission to build a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) school for girls in Senegal, where 61 percent of women over age 15 lack basic literacy skills. Immerse yourself in culture, have fun, and shop for beautiful and unique gear that will make your conscience smile radiantly.

The downlow:

The What: Expedition Subsahara Birthday Pop-Up

Whe When: Sunday, Sept. 22, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Where: STUDIO 14 at The Foundry Art Center, 520 N. Main Center, St. Charles, MO 63301

The Why: In a few words, the past year has been one of tremendous growth and education. I learned so much about what it takes to run a business. If I’m being completely honest, I faced some personal trials, challenges and setbacks that made running a business exponentially more difficult. But those obstacles, both separately and combined, reinforced and reignited my passion for making this insane dream a reality.

This past year has shown me things I’ve known all along, such as that you never know how long you’ll have on this Earth or just how blessed you truly are. There’s no time like the present to dream big, work hard and persevere.

I learned how hard it is to find women leathersmiths; to design and create a functional, stylish and sustainable bag; and more about laws and the technical part of building a school in Senegal. I also learned that nothing will be accomplished over night. Each step along the way takes a ton of time, energy, planning and working through a new set of hurdles. I learned that we have to stay the course, celebrate small victories and that it’s these small victories that move us toward success.

We’d be honored if you would celebrate the successes of the last year with us this September!
