Women across Africa, from Senegal to South Africa, use traditional weaving techniques to create beaded necklaces. Artisans use hundreds of tiny glass beads for each cluster in the bold and colorful statement pieces. And just like its namesake, our Bantunecklace is full of heritage, full of culture, and full of color.
The term “Bantu” refers to the approximately 85 million speakers of more than 500 distinct languages of the Niger-Congo language family. Bantu tribes populate much of the southern portion of Africa and have a diverse cultural patterns.
Since Africa is the second largest continent with about 54 countries and more than 1,500 different languages and customs, we always find it fascinating when a necklace made by Senegalese artisans is almost identical to one made by Namibian artisans.
