It’s International Women’s Day!

At Expedition Subsahara, we love to celebrate women every single day, but especially this day. Many of you know this company was founded by two fierce women - one from Uganda and one from Senegal. While our Ugandan partner has since moved on, we continue to thrive being 100% female-powered.

All of our products are handwoven by a growing group of strong women, and our entire staff is built of fun, fierce, amazing and dedicated women.

And when I say growing, we do mean each day! Since our inception four years ago, we have been able to onboard more than 120 women in Senegal.

These women have not only been able to create these functional pieces of art that bring color, joy and culture into our lives, but they have been able to help us work toward our dual missions of connecting African cultures to the world in a way that is radically respectful, and to one day build a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) school for girls in Senegal. To that end, 20 percent of our profit or a minimum of $50,000 (whichever is greater) every year is earmarked for the school to be built and operated in the future.

Both of these missions are hard, but worth it, and both will improve the lives of women and girls that create a ripple effect in Senegal and beyond.

To bring it full circle, we are incredibly lucky and grateful to have this encouraging, uplifting, amazing group of women around the world who love and support our company in so many ways. We love you.

Cheers to each and every one of you, and may you all thrive now and forever!
